Greek Lamb Meatballs (Authentic)

I never realized how incredibly tasty lamb meatballs could be until I made them with this recipe. The delicious mix of herbs like coriander and mint blend with other flavorful ingredients like garlic and cumin to make a sensational dish. I can't stress it enough; lamb is so good when prepared with the proper flavor profiles. Yum!

Use Lamb Meat to Get Your Protein Fix

I’m not sure why it took me so long to try making meatballs with ground lamb, but this is one case where it’s definitely better late than never. Lamb meat, especially if you can get it grass fed, is incredibly delicious and nutritious. It’s actually a surprisingly great source of omega-3 fatty acids, B-complex vitamins, folate, and choline. (1) In order to help hold your meatballs together, this recipe uses almond flour as a binder much like many non-paleo recipes make use of flour or breadcrumbs. I love using almond flour in all kinds of paleo recipes because it’s a delicious low carb substitute for refined wheat flour, and it’s completely gluten-free. Almond flour is also a good source of dietary fiber and protein as well.

Add Flavor with Spices and Herbs

You’ll also be adding garlic cloves to these meatballs, and they really help to add a ton of flavor to the whole recipe. Even better, allicin, the active compound found in garlic, has a ton of absolutely incredible health benefits to offer. It has some rather potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties (2), helping to reduce your odds of developing many different types of chronic diseases, such as cancer. And even though the garlic helps to add some potent flavor to the recipe, you’re not done yet.

This recipe calls for a delectable mixture of cooking herbs — ground coriander, dried oregano, fresh mint, and parsley. On top of that, you’ll also be adding some ground cumin to give the meatballs a slightly spicy kick, and some lemon zest to help balance it out by adding a bit of tanginess. Not only do these herbs and spices make these Greek style meatballs all the more flavorful, but they also add in a ton of antioxidants and other beneficial nutrients. These culinary herbs and spices are widely regarded for their anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, and neuroprotective effects.

mixing meatballs

After mixing all of these tasty ingredients together in a bowl, simply season with salt and pepper and then broil the meatballs for 10-12 minutes, turning them once halfway through. It’s really that easy to make these delicious Greek lamb meatballs. The whole process only takes about 20 minutes! There’s not very many other meals that are this easy to make yet produce such a fantastic, delicious paleo meal option. That’s exactly why this recipe is one of my favorites — delicious, nutritious, and simple to prepare. What’s not to love?
