5 Ingredient Chocolate Chip Cookies

Paleo Grubs
Paleo Grubs -

Offer anyone a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie and I can guarantee you that more often than not, they will take it without a second thought. They are without a doubt one of the most common desserts around. Lucky for you, just because you’re following a paleo diet doesn’t mean that you are no longer able to enjoy a good chocolate chip cookie every now and then. This 5 ingredient chocolate chip cookie recipe is incredibly easy to make and produces a dozen delicious cookies that taste just as good as their commercial counterparts.

You have a mad craving for chocolate chip cookies but you’re following a paleo diet so refined sugar is a big no-no. What do you do? Give in to your cravings, of course! No need to deprive yourself of dessert and treats when you can make healthy, paleo-approved versions instead. These chocolate chip cookies are 100% sugar-free, gluten-free, and dairy-free as they use almond flour and dark chocolate chips along with banana, coconut oil, and vanilla extract. Five ingredients, twelve cookies, and maybe a warm glass of almond milk on the side. Does not get much better than that.

Sugar- Free, Gluten-Free, and Dairy-Free Cookies

As delicious as most freshly baked chocolate chip cookies are, they’re just not the most ideal snack option even when consumed in moderation. They are filled with processed flours, refined sugar, and hydrogenated oils just to name a few. If you’re trying to reduce your sugar, gluten and flour intake, you’re going to have a bad time. That’s exactly why this recipe in particular is so popular amongst our readers. It ticks off all the boxes without skimping on flavor and decadence. As an added bonus, you have the freedom to add as many chocolate chips as you want since it’s made with dark chocolate.

Why is Dark Chocolate Better than Milk Chocolate?

When it comes to chocolate, dark is better. Dark chocolate is less processed and contains more cacao than milk chocolate or white chocolate. Cacao is what gives chocolate most of its nutritional value and antioxidant content. With milk chocoalate and white chocolate, the mixture is often diluted with milk, milk soilds, sugar and other additives, which means there is less of the cacao in the finished product, unlike dark chocolate. The downside to dark chocolate is that it tends to be a little bitter. Fortunately, these cookies are made with mashed bananas, which help to balance out the bitterness of the chocolate.

Almond Flour, A Paleo Flour Alternative

I just love using almond flour for all of my baking needs. Unlike wheat flour, this healthy option won’t provoke an inflammatory response within your body. It’s also low carb, packed with vitamins and minerals, and contains a great amount of omega-3 fatty acids. These chocolate chip cookies actually work to lower your risk of cardiovascular issues such as heart attack and stroke thanks to the use of almond flour and the omega-3 content. (1)

Dairy-Free Chocolate

Dairy is another extremely common cause of inflammation for many people. And unfortunately, many dairy products found on store shelves these days have been contaminated with antibiotics and hormones due to unethical livestock practices. The good news for these cookies is they use dark chocolate chips instead of milk chocolate. Dark chocolate is packed full of antioxidants and monounsaturated fatty acids that provide your body with many great cardiovascular benefits. (2)
