The BLT salad is everything a good salad should be. Whether you’re a busy parent whipping up a quick appetizer for dinner, or you’re someone on the go who needs a packed lunch for work, this meal has got you covered. Get packed and ready in less than 15 minutes. Additionally, this recipe would make a fantastic appetizer for family get-togethers, potlucks, parties, or even company picnics as it would compliment most entrees.

The BLT (bacon, lettuce, and tomato) salad is an excellent to have during the warmer months. It’s light, refreshing, simple and nutritious, perfect for an outdoor grill session or barbecue. It has all the essential components in a salad--a good mix of vegetables, crunch, flavor, and of course bacon. A complete meal in under 15 minutes? Now, who wouldn't want that?

How to Increase Your Vegetable Intake? Add Bacon

Let’s face it, some people really just have a difficult time eating vegetables. This is definitely more common among children but even some adults still outright refuse to eat vegetables. Why is that? Well, perhaps one of the reasons is because their manner of preparation leaves a lot to be deserved. Steamed or boiled vegetables aren’t the most exciting to look at. A neat little trick you can do is to add bacon. Who doesn’t love bacon? Its crunchy texture along with its smoky, savory flavor can mask the blandness of boring, dull lettuce.

Look for Paleo Bacon

Bear in mind that not all store-bought bacon is considered paleo. This is due to the preservatives and chemicals that are added to certain bacon products. Always make sure that the bacon you purchase is all-natural and paleo approved. A little goes a long way; sometimes all you need to do is add bits on top of a casserole or to a salad and you’re golden. Take this Brussels sprouts recipe for example. You don’t get a lot of people who love Brussels sprouts, but add bacon to the mix and it’s suddenly way more tolerable than before. Try it out.

The Fresher, The Better

It’s hard to mess up a salad but it’s also very easy to distinguish a salad made from fresh ingredients compared to one that uses ingredients of lesser quality. Since this BLT salad is mostly comprised of vegetables, it is recommended that you use only fresh and organic ingredients. We guarantee that you will taste the difference and your health will thank you in the years to come. Also, remember to wash your ingredients thoroughly to remove any excess dirt and grime. A kitchen tool that would be of good use for this job is a salad spinner. A salad spinner is essential for storing your vegetables as it helps take out excess moisture which could cause spoilage.

A Well-Balanced Dressing to Round Up Your Paleo Salad

What’s a salad without some good paleo dressing? The dressing for the BLT salad is very simple since it only makes use of 3 ingredients, not including salt and pepper. Mayonnaise (paleo-approved of course) is the base for this dressing along with lemon juice and dill. The richness of the mayonnaise is perfectly balanced with the tartness of the lemon juice while the dill adds an extra layer of flavor.

Nowadays, people are constantly on-the-go which is probably one of biggest reasons why they opt to make less-than-optimal meal choices. They simply don’t have time to prepare nutritious meals. The BLT salad is packed with essential nutrients to give you stable energy that lasts throughout the day, so if you’re one of those people, look no further. As an added bonus, it can be prepared in under 15 minutes. For those who are looking to lose weight, this is the perfect meal since it’s high in volume but very low in calories which will help keep you satiated for a longer period of time.
