Fried buffalo chicken wings that are both healthy and paleo-friendly? Oh yes, it’s certainly possible with this recipe for air fried paleo buffalo wings. It transforms two pounds of chicken wings into the popular finger food we all know and love thanks to our blend of spices and herbs. The wings are then placed in an air fryer where they are turned into perfectly crispy fried chicken wings before finally being tossed in a bowl of paleo approved hot sauce. Not only are they oh so spicy and good, but they are also way healthier than fried chicken wings usually tend to be thanks to the way in which they are cooked.

Buffalo chicken wings are popular appetizer all over the world and for good reason. They combine the best of both worlds: deep fried goodness and finger-licking sauces. It is all about the hot sauce and dip with buffalo chicken wings, much to a paleo dieter's dismay. Fortunately, there are ways to make the traditional buffalo chicken recipe in a more paleo-friendly way. It is quite the contender, actually, especially if you consider the health risks of consuming traditional non-paleo chicken wings regularly. Here is our recipe for paleo-approved buffalo wings.

Spicy Hot Chicken Wing Seasoning and Hot Sauce

These paleo Buffalo chicken wings provide a one-two punch of spicy hot goodness thanks to both the homemade seasoning they are coated in and then the hot sauce used as well. The seasoning is made with a carefully selected mixture of smoked paprika, ground cumin, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and lemon juice. These ingredients all combine to provide a wonderfully spicy and tangy flavor to the chicken wings while still remaining healthy enough for paleo lovers to enjoy guilt-free.

The cayenne pepper in this recipe adds a good amount of kick to the chicken wings. Not only is this spicy ingredient favored by hot food lovers all over the globe, but it also provides quite a few health benefits for both your heart and digestive system. This is due to the active ingredient capsaicin that is found in peppers that gives them their spicy hot qualities. Studies have shown that capsaicin has incredible potential when it comes to improving both cardiovascular and metabolic health. (1)

The Healthy Way to ‘Fry’

Other than the delightful homemade seasoning mixture added to the chicken wings, the other main thing that keeps this recipe perfect for paleo followers is the cooking method used. Most fried chicken wings are cooked in a deep fryer that uses vegetable oil to fry them in. I like to use a Phillips Air Fryer (the model that I personally use and recommend can be purchased from Amazon by clicking here) because it’s a much healthier method of frying chicken and other foods. Instead of relying on cooking oils, it simply uses air to quickly fry all of your favorite fried foods in a manner that keeps them totally paleo-friendly.

These chicken wings are good to go right out of the air fryer but why stop there? Even though the spicy homemade seasoning is unbelievably tasty and the wings are fried to absolute perfection there’s still one final step to make this an all-time great chicken wing meal. You simply toss the chicken wings in a bowl of paleo approved hot sauce to give them that classic spicy Buffalo wing taste. It’s one delightfully spicy hot messy finger food that you won’t be able to get enough of.

Paleo Approved Hot Sauce Brands

Not all hot sauce brands are considered paleo. Have a look at the ingredients list and look out for anything that’s not on the approved list. For example, many hot sauces contain xantham gum to thicken the sauce, but xantham gum isn’t considered paleo. The same goes for sugar, lecithin, sodium bisulfate, etc.
