What could possibly be better than delicious homemade banana ice cream? That’s easy – three different flavors of homemade banana ice cream. That’s exactly what I’ve got for you guys today with three different recipes to make vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate banana ice cream entirely from scratch. Each of these recipes only requires five minutes tops to prepare. This means that you’ll be all set to enjoy this delicious paleo ice cream in almost no time at all.
Banana Ice Cream – Even Better Than Dairy Ice Cream?
By freezing and blending bananas, you’re able to make an amazing ice cream replacement from the comfort of your own home without the need for an ice cream making machine. Unlike traditional ice cream that all too often leaves you feeling the after effects of a sugar crash soon after, banana ice cream can actually provide you with a steady amount of energy throughout the day. (1) Bananas are also quite low on the glycemic index, meaning they help to keep blood sugar levels stable compared to more refined carbohydrates. They also don’t hit your bloodstream as hard thanks to their high fiber content. (2)
The blended bananas create a nice cold smooth mixture with a similar consistency as soft ice cream. Blending the bananas on their own like this can actually make an extremely basic banana flavored faux ice cream. However, variety truly is the spice of life. That’s why with the addition of a few other basic household ingredients, you’re able to produce banana ice cream in a wide range of popular flavors.
For the vanilla banana ice cream, you’ll require 3 frozen sliced bananas along with almond milk and vanilla extract. Blend the three items together until they’re thick and smooth and that’s it. You’re ready to immediately enjoy a nice cold bowl of vanilla flavored “ice cream”. The chocolate banana ice cream is prepared in much the same way, only you’ll swap out the vanilla extract in exchange for cacao powder and almond butter.
The strawberry banana ice cream recipe uses one less banana than the other two recipes. The reason for this is you’ll also be adding one cup of frozen strawberries into the mix to make up for the missing banana. It’s still just as simple as the other ones, and just a bit tastier as well thanks to using real frozen strawberries instead of vanilla extract or cacao powder. Make no mistake though – all three of these ice cream recipes are unbelievably yummy.
You’ll need a food processor for this recipe. If you don’t already have one, this is the one we recommend. It can generate enough power to blitz through frozen fruit, nuts, seeds, ice, and more, so you’re sure to get plenty of use out of it. If you’re planning to make larger batchs (4-6 servings), you’ll need at least a 7-cup capacity food processor. Otherwise, this 3.5 cup mini food processor is great for single servings.
Going paleo doesn’t mean you have to give up enjoying ice cream and the many flavors that it comes in. Many people actually end up preferring banana ice cream over regular dairy ice cream due to the fact there’s no accompanying energy crash after eating it. Instead, you’ll be able to enjoy vanilla, strawberry, and even chocolate flavored ice cream while feeling like a million bucks after eating it.
