Flaxseeds are similar to chia seeds because they can “gel” and are often used in place of eggs for vegan recipes. But flax also has a lovely flavor, and it’s great as a meal in baked goods or crackers. Try these paleo flaxseed recipes!

These flaxseed recipes are a must if you’ve been wondering how to eat more flaxseed for its health benefits. I never go a day without it now!

1. Flax Almond Meal Banana Muffins With Dark Chocolate
Almond meal is my favorite flour to use for baked goods, and anything with dark chocolate and banana in it is a winner in my mind. So I’m excited to share this recipe! Flaxseed meal adds nutrition and helps bind the muffins, which are sweetened entirely with bananas.

2. Ultimate Seed Crackers
Flax is a great seed to use in paleo crackers and breads. It has an almost wheaty flavor, if you ask me, and it binds really well. These tasty crackers are made with pumpkin seeds, ground flaxseed, sesame seeds, chia seeds, water, and salt. It’s that simple! You can add seasonings if you want to.

3. Flourless Crispy Flaxseed Waffles
Made entirely of flaxseed, these unique and awesome waffles are crispy and delicious. All you need is the flaxseed, baking powder, sea salt, eggs, avocado oil (or coconut, or olive) and fresh herbs or cinnamon, depending in whether you’re making savory or sweet waffles.

4. Vegan Flaxseed Paleo Tortillas
These are the easiest paleo tortillas you will ever make. You just need flax, salt, and water! They hold together really well and are flexible thanks to the binding properties of flax, so they make great tortillas for tacos or other wrapped up dishes.

5. Apple Flax Breakfast Squares
These breakfast squares don’t use any flour besides ground flaxseed (flaxseed meal) and they’re sweetened with applesauce and maple syrup. Eggs help to structure them and add protein, while chopped apples and nuts adds texture and a lovely cinnamon-vanilla sweetness.

6. Flaxseed Bread With Capers
In addition to tortillas, you can also make a more traditional-style “bread” with flaxseeds. This version uses flax and eggs along with salt and the other expected bread ingredients, but with the addition of capers to give the bread an amazing flavor.

7. Strawberries and Cream Grain Free Bars
These easy bars are the perfect pre- or post-workout snack, and they also just make a tasty little treat-on-the-go. You’ll need both fresh and freeze-dried strawberries, honey, vanilla, almond butter, coconut cream, almond flour (are you drooling yet?) as well as flax, chia, hemp seeds, and sunflower seeds.

8. Cherry Protein Smoothie
This protein smoothie is made with frozen cherries, banana, chia seeds, almond butter, almond milk, and ground flaxseed. The ground seeds add a decent amount of protein, and you can also optionally add maca powder and/or a handful of greens for extra vitamins.

9. Easy Nut and Seed Crackers
These crackers can be fully adaptable to your liking, and are delicious with a combination of almonds, ground sunflower seeds, flaxseed, pumpkin seeds, sesame, and goji berries. You’ll also need an egg, water, salt, and more seeds to sprinkle over the top.

10. Raw Protein Power Balls
Made with dates, vanilla, flax, and nuts like almonds and hazelnuts, these easy power balls are going to be your new go-to snack or energy booster before or after your workout. You can add cocoa if you want them chocolaty, and protein powder if you want more protein in them.

11. Almond Flaxseed Yogurt Granola Bars
Don’t worry, there’s no grainy granola in these bars. They’re made with almond meal and flaxseed, almonds, honey, coconut sugar, vanilla, and chocolate chips. Finally, they’re coated in a delicious sweetened yogurt coating, which you can make paleo by using coconut yogurt or coconut cream instead of the Greek yogurt.

12. Banana Smoothie With Nuts and Seeds
This is the healthiest banana smoothie you’ll ever make, but it’s so delicious that you could reasonably mistake it for a milkshake. You’ll need banana, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flaxseeds, almonds, almond milk, vanilla, turmeric, almond butter, honey, ice, and fresh nutmeg.

13. Fig and Lavender Almond Muffins
These muffins taste like a garden—in a very good way. They’re made with a base of almond meal and flaxseeds and sweetened with honey, applesauce, and vanilla stevia. The ripe figs are the best part, in my opinion, because they’re so sweet and gooey when you bite into the muffin.
